About Our Long Beach Puppy Board and Train Service

Puppies are awesome. They’re cute and cuddly; watching them learn about the world is fun. They can also be holy terrors. They can be destructive, nippy, and exhausting. Let’s not even get into potty training. The thing is… this is all perfectly normal puppy behavior. But most humans want to ensure their pup can live well within their lifestyle. And this means no chewed-on shoes… and potty accidents in the house.

A good routine and proper training can get your puppy on the right track to becoming a well-balanced member of your household. This doesn’t take away from the fact that until they have a foundation and learn boundaries, the first 4-6 months with a puppy are brutal. 

Sometimes the struggle can get to be a little too much. If your workload has increased, you have had a family emergency, or even if you have plans to go out of town, you might suddenly feel like you aren’t investing enough time into training your puppy. If life has suddenly gotten a little too busy, and you have a puppy or dog that needs training, we have a solution: Underdogs Long Beach Board and Train service!

What Is Board and Train?

Board and Train is a service we offer to help busy people provide their puppies with good foundational training. Your puppy will stay with one of our certified trainers while they work on skills like crate training, barrier training, and potty training. 

Depending on the needs of you and your puppy, Board and Train programs can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. We can work with your time frame to customize a plan that will work perfectly for you. 

Your puppy will be treated like a valued member of their temporary family while they learn the skills they need to thrive in a human world. In addition to learning through daily life with an experienced trainer, and being around dogs that have already been through training, your puppy will automatically be enrolled in our Saturday Puppy Kindergarten class.

If you need to Board and Train because you feel you aren’t giving your puppy the training they need during the week, we can arrange for your puppy to go home on the weekends. You can even come to your pup’s class to participate and learn the skills you will need once your puppy finishes their course. 

If you’re out of town, no worries! This program is perfect if you need to board your puppy and don’t want their training impacted. You will still learn how to work with your puppy at home during our transfer sessions once the program is over. 

What Does The Board and Train Program Look Like?

We need to learn more about your puppy before customizing their program. We start our Board and Train sessions with a 45-minute remote consultation. This gives us a chance to know why you think Board and Train are right for you and your puppy, the areas you feel need attention, and more about your pup in general. 

Your puppy will learn the basic skills needed for them to work up to more advanced training. Recall loose leash walking, ‘relax on a mat,’ and even the proper way to greet other dogs and people will be taught. They’ll enjoy enrichment activities daily and even go on field trips!

If your puppy is vaccinated, they’ll enjoy socializing and going on multiple walks per day… and tag along everywhere. If you have a puppy that has not yet been fully vaccinated, they won’t be stuck inside. We’ll find safe places for them to go while limiting their exposure to other dogs. 

Your puppy will have multiple one-on-one training sessions daily, making the behaviors routine. They will also be enrolled in an age-appropriate group class once a week. 

If you can, we will have a weekly transfer session where you learn how to work with your puppy at home. And, of course, you will have a final transfer session at the end of your puppy’s program. Your behavior is just as important as your dog’s when it comes to retaining the skills they’ve learned. 

Best of all, your puppy will get lots of love, attention, and playtime. They’ll be having so much fun they won’t even realize they’re learning. 

If you’re worried about transportation, don’t be. We will gladly pick up and drop off your pup. 

What Kind Of Training Methods Do You Use?

We use only positive methods when it comes to training dogs of all ages. Positive reinforcement helps build and strengthen the trust your dog has in you. Successful training requires trust on both ends to have a desirable outcome.  

One of our goals is to help you feel confident in how you handle and react to your dog. We all get frustrated with our dog’s crazy antics, but if you and your dog have a good rapport, you can face whatever challenges they throw at you.

– Puppy or dog will automatically be enrolled in all Underdogs group classes
